I Lied

by Ilika Ward

/

lyrics

Dare I sit in the sun
And soak up the warmth
My traveling days are all but done
At least for now I must stay at home

I watch my children grow
And it pleases me to no end
At night when I’m alone
I feel sorry that I hide
I feel sorry that I lied

It’s been one long masquerade
Making you feel this is who I am
For me happiness truly comes
When I’m on the stage with the music in my hands

I watch the days unfold
And wait patiently for them to end
When all is said and told
I can’t remember when
Or if I’ve ever really told you who I truly am

I have walked the twisted highway
Through the hills that line the Old Man’s shores
Over peaks and the valleys
Far too long to lie anymore

And still I sit here watching
As friends I’ve had move on
One day I hope to join them
Maybe get to sing a song
It’s all I’ve wanted all along
